Futures Development Camp

The Futures Development Camp is the best 12 & 13 yr old hockey players in the New England District of USA Hockey.  Players tryout in their home state for an opportunity to be selected to attend this highly competitive development camp. The training sessions are led by USA Hockey national office personnel.

This camp is the player’s first introduction to the USA Hockey National Development process, which begins at 14U. The Futures Development Camp consists of on and off ice training sessions, skill development, small area games, and full ice games.

FAQ #1

Q: What if I have a question about Futures Camp?

A: Leading up to Futures Camp, feel free to email Camp Administrator, Kim Gaines, at kimgaines@nedusah.org. Once you are at Futures Camp, there will be at least one New England District (NED) representative at each of the host rinks throughout the entire event.  Our NED representatives are more than happy to speak with you and answer any questions you might have.

FAQ #2

Q: Where can I find the detailed schedule of events for Futures Camp?

A: The detailed schedule will be posted to the website at least two weeks prior to the event.

FAQ #3

Q: What’s the deal with this camper only check-in policy on Friday?

A: You, the parent, are welcome to be present at the check in process. Our request is that when our event staff at the registration table says, “Hello, what is your name and team color?” that you allow your child to respond and work their way through the very simple check-in process. The main purpose of Futures Camp is for campers to experience a USA Hockey Development Camp event and that starts at the check-in process. Campers will receive their Futures Camp jersey and welcome gift upon check-in (all of which is theirs to keep).

FAQ #4

Q: What happens if a camp participant gets injured during Futures Camp?

A: Certified Athletic Trainers will be staffed at each of the host rinks throughout the entire event. Our Athletic trainers are trained/equipped to handle any situation that might occur at the rink; however, they may refer you to a local hospital depending on the severity of the incident.

FAQ #5

Q: Can my camp participant switch teams and/or play with their friends?

A: No, teams are set up to foster a competitive environment and designed for campers to play with and befriend other top players from across the New England District.

FAQ #6

Q: Can my camp participant pick or change their jersey number?

A: No, all jersey numbers are assigned prior to Futures Camp and cannot be changed.

FAQ #7

Q: Is it okay for my camp participant to miss one or more of the games/practice session?

A: The expectation is participation in all scheduled events as it is a privilege to be selected and others are counting on their attendance. Emergencies do happen and in the event your personal schedule changes, please have your camp participant notify their coach. If you’re going to miss Friday, please notify the Camp Administrator immediately.

FAQ #8

Q: What if my camp participant’s jersey does not perfectly fit?

A: If your camp participant is a skater, we only have one size jersey, nothing smaller. If your camp participant is a goalie, or needs a bigger size, please have them check-in with the NED representative on duty.

FAQ #9

Q: Are there additional player evaluations taking place at Futures Camp (i.e. are there any coaches taking notes/evaluating performance)?

A: No, there are no further player evaluations done at Futures Camp. The purpose of Futures Camp is to create a fun, instructive environment for campers to compete against the top talent in their age group from across the New England District.

FAQ #10

Q: Should parents attend the off-ice session on Friday/Saturday?

A: Yes, it is highly recommended that parents attend the off-ice session on Saturday. The presentation will be conducted by USA Hockey professional staff and contains vital information regarding next steps of USA Hockey Player Develop within the New England District.

FAQ #11

Q: There might be inclement weather in the forecast. Will any events be postponed/delayed?

A: No, due to ice time constraints, all events will go on as scheduled regardless of the weather. That being said, we ask that you be flexible and understanding if some players, coaches, timekeepers, and/or officials are not able to be present for any events during inclement weather.

FAQ #12

Q: Where can we go to get skates sharpened or to get equipment?

A: Skate sharpening will be available at both facilities throughout the event weekend.
